Housing and Growth Deal – Infrastructure

Oxfordshire is thriving. Over the past decade, our cumulative growth has been higher than any other local area. However, investment in infrastructure has not kept up. The Deal helps deliver new transport and social infrastructure along with properly planned new housing and sustainable communities. This includes forward funding for road and rail improvement schemes to benefit existing communities and unlock new development sites. It will also unlock funding from developers for community infrastructure such as schools, health centres and community centres.

Investment in infrastructure

The Housing & Growth Deal has unlocked £500 million of investment in infrastructure across the county. The Deal itself includes £30 million a year for five years to help accelerate infrastructure projects including road, rail, cycle routes and footpaths, as well as social infrastructure such as schools. More than 40 projects have now been allocated funding for the five-year period.

The projects range from new slip roads to improve access to Carterton from the A40 and a relief road for Watlington, to a cycle and pedestrian bridge over the A34 at the Milton Interchange and a new primary school in Shrivenham. The Deal will also unlock future funding through developer contributions as part of associated new homes being built.

Bids for a further £300 million are also planned to be submitted to Government through its Housing and Infrastructure Fund. These bids would help secure transport improvements and unlock the delivery of more affordable housing as part of Didcot Garden Town and in West Oxfordshire.
